Lauren's story
A traumatic relationship that had finally broken down completely and ended in divorce. Our client was living in a property still in her ex’s name who was fighting every step of the way, despite having no solicitor of their own.
Lauren was distraught, having spent thousands of pounds already, she was advised by her original solicitor it would still take years of financial and emotional stress to resolve things fully.
Thankfully, she sought a second opinion and called our office for a free consultation.
Our Head of Family Law, Clare Pinnington took the call and remembers “it was clear just how emotional Lauren was… And rightly so given the circumstances.”
Once the particulars of the case were explained, however, Clare was certain Pinnington Law could help. And it certainly wouldn’t take years.
Lauren agreed and instructed Pinnington Law to take over acting on her behalf. Clare continued the case throughout but also engaged Stephen Pinnington, one of our Senior Solicitors, who was ready to represent Lauren in court if needed.
But it was never the plan to reach that point.
Lauren’s ex was stalling the entire process and being slow to respond or providing insufficient information whenever they were required to.
Having seen this play out many times before, we advised Lauren to take the calculated decision of initiating court proceeds whilst also presenting an offer as an alternative.
Lauren’s ex accepted on the morning of the hearing, and this meant we secured her and her children’s home and protected her pension from any future claims at the same time.
“This case was very rewarding,” said Clare, “ultimately, someone was in a terrible position and terrified. The fact we could turn it around and make sure the right outcome happened is why we’re in Family Law.”
Please note: Whilst the case is a true story, the name and other details of our client have been changed to protect the identities and confidentiality of all involved.
